Meet a Member - Melissa T, Week 27

Week 27
August 12, 2014
Thoughts for the Week…
  • School started back up for me and I’m ready to start a new year! Although summer break was only 2 months, it’s difficult to remember how I fit everything in from school to kids’ homework to cooking dinner to working out. Sunday planning and prepping for meals during the week resumes!
  • Being very busy with work this week meant only 2 workouts. However…I had a 7 star week! It’s been a while since I’ve had a week of ALL stars…it felt awesome! What felt even more awesome is that I lost another 3.6 pounds, for a grand total so far of 55.4 pounds. My mom said to me the other day, “I don’t remember the last time you were this skinny.” Gee thanks mom! But truthfully, neither do I.

WOD (Workout of the Day)
  • Stay tuned…school workouts will resume next week.

  • That’s my secret…counting calories. I keep my food journal in my purse and I have it with me all the time. There hasn’t been a day since February 8 that I haven’t wrote down my food for the day. I’m on my 3rd food journal. Some people are able to use the online apps, but for me that doesn’t work. It’s quicker for me to write it down. Then I’m able to go back easily to other days or weeks if I want. Even though I know what my daily calorie range to lose weight is, I always write that at the top of each day. It just serves as another reminder to where I need to be at the end of the day.
  • Some people ask, “Do you have cheat days?” To that my answer is, “No.” There are times where my calories for the day end up to be a sad face, but those are usually the nights where I’ve chosen to drink alcohol. I still write down what and how many drinks I consumed. Do I call it a cheat day? No, it’s my drunken pig face day. I may have 4 a month, if that. If I eat (and drink) like crap, I feel like crap. Those choices are not helping me to get to where I want to be.

Week 28 & 29

August 19, 2014 & August 26, 2014

Thoughts for the Week…

Well, 2 weeks have gone by since I’ve blogged. Where has my mind gone? Last week I talked about not remembering how I fit everything in while school was in session. The past two weeks I’ve done a much better job planning on Sunday for the upcoming week’s meals. But then once I think I’ve got it down again, I think to myself, "I still haven’t done my blog from 2 weeks ago!" Time sure does fly when you’re having fun!

Three weeks ago is when I had my 7-star stellar week and lost 3.6 pounds. It’s difficult to have 2 weeks in a row with those high numbers. That being said, two weeks ago I ended the week with 6 stars and 1 BFF-induced drunken pig face (but we sure did have fun!) and only lost 0.6 pounds. This week I ended with 6 stars and 1 smiley face with 5 workouts with a weight loss of 3 pounds! As of right now, I am 24 pounds away from my goal weight. TWENTY FOUR pounds!! Forty pounds ago that seemed like so far away, but now, I can see it…t’s right around the corner! That’s pretty exciting!

Next week, it’s picture time! I’ll include an updated pic and hopefully will get my measurements updated. Stay tuned!

WOD (Workout of the Day)

Yeah! They’re back! Here’s one to get you started:

3 Rounds:

o Run a 400

o 50 air squats

o 40 Push ups

o 30 Lunges

o 20 push press

o 10 burpees

Ponder this…

With football season upon us, I must remember that I have to "Stick to the Plan!" I don’t’ go to football game parties to watch the game. I go to socialize, eat and drink. I am going to have to change my mindset and remind myself those behaviors are not going to help me get to my goal.

Week 25 & 26

July 28, 2014 & August 5, 2014

Thoughts for the Week…

  • I’m a week behind on my blogs because we took a family vacation to Washington State for a week. I weighed in one day earlier than my normal Tuesday weigh in and lost 2.4 pounds of the 2.6 pounds I’d gained in the previous two weeks. Almost back to where I should be.
  • Washington State was amazing! Our first two nights were spent in Bellingham where my good friend, René, lives. The first night there she took us on a little 3-ish mile walk along the bay. What a beautiful view of green trees, water and mountains. The next day René’s goal was to take us on a “Best of Bellingham” tour. We started out at a little café for breakfast. I was very mindful in what I ordered…getting the basil tomato poached eggs on an English muffin and subbing fruit for hash browns. Delicious start to a day of LOTS of hiking! If you’ve never been to Bellingham, put it on your Bucket List. It’s so gorgeous there!
  • After our time in Bellingham, we drove south and spent the next 5 nights in Everett. My husband’s brother lives there and was having a celebration for his little grocery store that he’s had in the front half of his house for the past 25 years. Aside from the grocery store celebration, many family members traveled there too, so it was also like a 5-day family reunion. And we all know what there is at family reunions…LOTS of food and drinks! Long story short…I was very mindful of all of my food decisions and ended my vacation losing 0.8 pounds! I just kept telling myself, “I cannot relax my rules”.
WOD (Workout of the Day)

  • When we stayed in Everett, our hotel had a fitness room. I got up and worked out 3 of the 5 mornings we were there. This one took me just under 45 minutes. Here it is:

  • 50-40-30-20-10 (50 reps of each exercise, then run, 40 reps of each exercise, then run, ect)
    • Squats
    • Russian twists
    • Bicep curls
    • Sit-ups
    • Punches with 3-5 pound weights
  • Run a 400 (.25 of a mile) at the beginning, between sets and at the end.

Ponder this…

  • Summer is over and school has started up again. I’ve not seen anyone from school since the very end of May. Several people I’ve talked to say, “I didn’t even recognize you!” I don’t think I’ve changed that much. I went back to my food journal to see how many pounds I’ve actually lost over the summer. It’s only just below seven pounds. Maybe it’s one of those things where when you see someone every day you don’t recognize all of the changes until you’ve not seen them for a while.
  • Before school was out for the summer I was so worried that I wouldn’t be able to keep my “routine” up during the summer because summer really has no routine. Or at least it never has in the past. This is the first summer where I didn’t “vege out” the whole time. I kept my routine of going to the gym. I kept being mindful of my food choices. It’s getting easier, but it’s still hard work. As Marty says, “Exercising and healthy eating is like a part time job.” If you have a part time job, you get extra money. Don’t show up at work, you don’t get paid. Just like exercise and eating. You treat it as a part time job, you’ll get that extra “money” in the form of losing weight, gaining muscle, feeling happier, being stronger, etc. You don’t show up, you don’t get “paid”. So, get to work!!
